The Law of Sacrifice

THE LAW OF SACRIFICE EXPLAINED

“If you really want to understand what it takes to be successful, don’t ask, ‘What does it take to get to the place that you are at?’ But rather ask, ‘Who and what did you have to give up?’ Success is inextricably related to sacrifice.” —Gary T. Hartfield

In Physics, I learned about Sir Isaac Newton’s Three Laws of Motion. Although I can draw a parallel between all three of the Laws of Motion to success and sacrifice, I will use only the third law to not bore the reader.

Newton’s third law states that for every action, there is an equal reaction equal in force but opposite in direction. Simply stated, this means that when an object pushes another object, it gets pushed back in the opposite direction equally as hard.

To illustrate this concept, consider the flying motion of birds. A bird flies by use of its wings. The wings of a bird push air downwards. Since forces result from mutual interactions, the air must also be pushing the bird upwards. The size of the force on the air equals the size of the force on the bird; the direction of the force on the air (downwards) is opposite the direction of the force on the bird (upwards). For every action, there is an equal (in size) and opposite (in direction) reaction. Action-reaction force pairs make it possible for birds to fly.

Given the facts regarding Sir Isaac Newton’s third law of motion, this simple law of physics allows me to prove my bases for a new Law of Motion, the Law of Sacrifice. The word sacrifice can be used as a noun or a verb. In the application of the Law of Sacrifice, we use the word sacrifice as a noun.

We define sacrifice as the act of giving up something highly valued for the sake of something else considered to have greater value or claim. Sacrifice does not mean giving up something for nothing. It means giving up one thing for something else we believe is worth more.

Therefore, the Law of Sacrifice states that success in life’s aspirations are inextricably related to personal sacrifice. You cannot get something you want without giving up something in return. In order to attain something, you believe is of greater value, you must give up something you believe is of great value. Although the Law of Sacrifice utilizes physical science principles, such as Newton’s 3rd Law, it is not based fully on these finite set of parameters.

The Law of Sacrifice is a divine principle. It operates beyond space and time and knows no limits. In its most pure and noble form, the Law of Sacrifice is based on the Theology of Retribution, which is you reap what you sow.

Consider aspiring to be wealthy as an example. Understanding the law of sacrifice, you will have to decide to give something away for you to receive wealth. Therefore, reaching your goals may mean you have to sacrifice a person or a group of people in order for you to reach your desired end. You may also give your time, effort, energy, financial resources, and value creation for you to receive wealth in return.

The Law of Sacrifice does not suggest that accomplishing your goals will be easy if you follow the rules. Nor is there a rational exchange for input of time for output of results. However, it does state that if you endure your race, in the fullness of time, you will accomplish your goal.

The fullness of time does not mean that it will happen if you wait long enough. The fullness of time means there is a process of maturation you must go through that will prepare you to receive the blessing you are seeking. Although time is an integral part of this process, it is not the only factor.

Therefore, if you want to become wealthy and take shortcuts to obtain wealth, you will suffer consequences. For example, if you steal, find or win money, because you disobey the Law of Sacrifice and receive something without properly paying for it, you have a debt that you owe.

Debts always have to be repaid. In the fullness of time, you may have to repay such debt by experiencing extreme family problems centered around the money, you may come to the understanding that wealth was not something you really wanted, or it did not fulfill you. Finally, you may lose wealth because you were not properly prepared to receive the blessing.

As you apply the Law of Sacrifice, know that letting go of a person, circumstance, or group of people is exerting an energy of sacrifice that pushes those lesser values, impeding progress towards your goals, out of your way. At the same time, God is pushing towards you, with equal force, the right person, circumstance, or group of people that will help you achieve your goals and help you realize your purpose.
