Gary Hartfield Elected Vice Chair of HART Board of Directors
TAMPA, Fla. (January 7, 2026) — The Hillsborough Transit Authority (HART) Board of Directors elected Director Gary Hartfield as Vice Chair during its January 5, 2026, meeting. The Board also elected Councilman Gil Schisler as Chair and Commissioner Gwen Myers as Secretary for 2026.
Hartfield joined the HART Board in October 2023 and will support the Board’s work to guide public transit policy and decision-making across system operations, service planning, fare structure, finance, and customer service.
In addition to his service on HART, Hartfield also serves on Plan Hillsborough’s Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) Board as a representative for HART, and sits on the Tampa Historic Streetcar, Inc. Board of Directors, supporting transit coordination and the continued growth of multimodal transportation in the Tampa Bay region.
“Serving on the HART Board has only strengthened my belief that transportation is a quality-of-life issue and an economic opportunity issue,” said Hartfield. “I’m grateful to my fellow Board members for their confidence, and I’m ready to get to work, supporting efforts that improve reliability, strengthen accountability, and ensure our transit system keeps pace with the needs of a growing region.”
The HART Board is comprised of volunteer members appointed to represent jurisdictions across Hillsborough County and elects its officers annually. HART plans, finances, operates, and maintains public transit services in Hillsborough County, providing convenient, affordable transportation for residents and visitors.
